Yellow
L
ight is electromagnetic energy that is able to stimulate the
rod and cone cells in the retina at the back of the eye.
There are three types of cone cells, termed L (long wavelength) or red cones, M (medium wavelength) or green cones and S (short wavelength) or blue cones, which respond to different wavelengths of light. Their combined responses to light create our perceptions of colour. We perceive the colour yellow when light stimulates the L (red) and M (green) cones about equally but does not significantly stimulate the S (blue) cones. |
