Sunrise or Sunset
Lighting conditions for outdoors photography are usually best just after sunrise or just before sunset, when the sun is low in the sky. At these times, sunlight passes through more of the earth's atmosphere, producing subtle tonal variations that illuminate subjects from the side, rather than the harsher overhead lighting usually available during the middle of the day. DIG members captured the effects of sunlight at sunrise and sunset, as shown below. |
